A close contest from the first whistle, goal for goal throughout the quarter. Fatialofa and Inkster shot 10 from 15 between them but rebounded well. Some unforced errors through the mid gave ball to the opposition that should have been ours but Warren and Beazley-Tango gathered in 4 intercepts and rebounded 1 of the 3 missed attempts by HHK shooters. The first quarter had a gap of 2. 10 - 8 to Aztec.
No changes to the players on the court. Both Warren and Lendrum gained an intercept a piece and Beazley-Tango was dynamic hunting down 5 of her own. These positive turnovers were critical as we continued to give away possession through the mid through bad decision making on passes and footwork. Thankfully our shooters accuracy gave us points when the ball got into the circle and we increased the lead by another 2. Half time score 18-14 to Aztec.
Bilton came on at WA, Paea at WD going into the second half of the game. This quarter was so closely contested with both ends shooting well that it was 12 each and no change to the lead going into the final 15 minutes. 30 - 26 to Aztec
White moved to WA, Hemi came on at C for the final period of play. The whistle was blown extensively throughout this last quarter which resulted in a very stop – start end to the game. Both ends were shooting in the 70% range and it was a closely contested match until the final whistle with HHK gaining 1 and reducing the margin to 3 at the end of the game. Aztec won the match 40 - 37
We finished the game looking forward to our 5 tough games in the RPL tournament the next day.
