Another tough match tonight for Aztec 2.  We were down by 4 goals 8 minutes into the game and playing catch-up netball.  Spence called injury for a torn thumb nail and after a quick repair we scored 3 goals in a row to get within 2 but then allowed Timbertown to pull ahead again.  They had 20 attempts at goal in the first 15 minutes while we had only put up 7 shots.  Even though Inkster was accurate shooting 7 from 7, the inability of our attacking unit to get the ball to the post was an issue, as the defenders for Timbertown gathered in the ball being fed into our shooters and turned it into points.
First quarter Score:    7 - 16 Timbertown

One change with Bremner coming off the bench to WA for Aztec and Timbertown’s shooters swapped bibs
This quarter saw us score 6 goals to Timbertowns 4 in the first 10 centre passes when there was an injury break called by Bremner. After the break the momentum shifted and Timbertown took control again, scoring the next 11 goals before we found the post in the last few minutes of this quarter.  They had put up 24 shots to our 16 and increased the lead by another 10 goals to be in front by 19 at half time.
Half time Score:   14 - 33 Timbertown

Warren came on at GD with Bilton out to WD.  We had no answer to the skilful attacking play of Timbertown and found it difficult to get the ball into Page and Inkster who managed to only turn to the post 7 times in the 15 minutes.  Bremner called injury time halfway through this quarter and Paea was brought back on to WA and Lendrum replaced Bilton at WD. The gap had widened at the end of the third to a massive 30 goals.
Third quarter Score:   21 - 51 Timbertown

Bilton went back on at GD and the final quarter started with each team scoring 5 goals a piece and being much more closely contested.  This was short-lived however and Timbertown again took control dominating the entire court, intercepting passes in the mid-court and those being fed into the shooters by Aztec.  We were limited to 11 attempts in the quarter compared to 26 at the other end.  The game ended with a definitive victory by Timbertown 71-31.

Aztec struggled from the starting whistle to get the ball into the shooting circle, we were punished at every opportunity when we failed to go to the ball or get in front on attack and our defence were unable to gather it back at the other end.  Timbertown had a massive 61 more attempts at goal than we did.  So even though our accuracy was 86% compared to their 73%, it had little impact in this extremely fast-paced game (133 attempts at goal in 60 minutes is rapid netball).  Possession is everything and we didn’t give ourselves enough of it.
